Nowadays, there are a lot of websites that include the RSS feature for keeping up with the latest news and site updates. NewsPiper is a program that can handle such information. This program combines RSS reader, news aggregator and news ticker in one single environment. It can scan your favorites news sites (like cnn.com, foxnews.com, etc.) and retrieves news headlines. Installation is a point and click operation and doesn't require much effort from the user. The program is spyware-free and doesn't install any toolbars into the system. Also, the installation kit and the program itself are small in size and the system requirements are low, so installing this software onto an older computer shouldn't be a problem. After clicking on the program's executable, the main windows is launched together with an icon in system tray, for easy access. The interface is simple and intuitive, all the options are self-explanatory. Basically, the main interface consists of two panels, on the left being the list of channels and on the right, the news headlines contained by those channels. At the first run of the program, the channel list is empty and the user can add a new site for scanning just by indicating the URL, regular expression for headlines recognition and the code page of the site. After adding this information and after refreshing the channel from the program's menu, the right column will fill with headlines. For each shown headline the user can open a full story page in his default web browser simply by clicking on the headline. In addition, NewsPiper can check the status of the user's internet connection at a scheduled interval that can be manually changed and can change the color of the icon in the system tray bar accordingly, as green means online and red means offline.

Pros

: It's simple and efficient, having options that will please an average user. Besides that, it places an icon in the system tray for easy access to the program and for showing the status of the internet connection.

Cons

: Uses the default web browser to display news in full size instead of the program's window. NewsPiper is a great software that allows you to be always informed about the latest news in the quickest and simplest way possible.
